What I have been doing during lockdown (UK)

We have been in lockdown in the UK for about 3 weeks now. Aside from live sessions and filming videos for the children I work with, I have been using my two weeks of Easter holiday to try and be creative. This has also given me a chance to work my way through the anxiety and stress that being stuck inside comes with. I have now made my way to a “making the most of it” attitude regarding  being stuck inside. Basically, I have been doing increasingly random things to help keep myself sane.

I am very aware that I am one of the lucky few that has the ability to use the lockdown here in the UK as a chance to be creative. I don’t take that for granted.

Buttoonies!

These are a great little craft which take about 30 minutes and cost £2. They are a nice Sunday afternoon activity that help me feel like I am being creative and productive. Also, they are cute.

Garden bird watching

I just managed to get all of my gear together to go out and actually try bird watching, but then lockdown, so I decided to twitch from my back garden. Honestly, you would be surprised at what is right outside your window. Go on give it a try!

Creating my own cross stitch patterns

This came out of another random conversation with Jon. Whilst I was finishing my latest cross stitch, I decided that I wanted to make my own. I then went to the all-knowing Jon who suggested that I get a squared notebook and go for it. Which is why I bought a squared notebook and went for it. I have found that it is basically pixel art, and although the art I produce is really basic, I enjoy it and it makes me happy.

Sending, letters, gifts, cards and postcards

It didn’t take me long to figure out that I needed to keep in contact with people. I am horrible at texting or messaging people back, so I decided that I would be a little old fashioned and send letters, cards and postcards. I wanted to let people know how much I appreciated them. If you want to reconnect with people and you aren’t sure how, this is a great way to get started.

Baking

I have said it before and I will say it again, I have a love-hate relationship with baking, and that is because I am so bad at it. I can follow a recipe to the letter, and still not bake well. I believe baking is an art form and have a lot of respect for people who can succeed at it. I won’t be beaten though, so far I have made mini egg brownies, a carrot cake and a lemon tart. I am making notes and corrections each time, and getting honest feedback from Jon. I am determined to be able to bake well!

We started a podcast

As some of you may be aware Jon got bored one evening, came and found me and said, “Jeeesssss… let’s make a podcast?” I mean what else could I say but, “aye, why not?” I am so glad that I said yes, because although it is a lot of work it is also a lot of fun, we’re currently working on episode 3.

I finally finished my cross stitch

I have been doing this particular cross stitch since the beginning of March, and I set aside some time everyday to finish it, and to learn about all the women it showcases. I am very happy with the finished product and I can’t wait to write a post about it.

Reading in the garden

I could have just written reading in general, but reading is something that I do a lot. Reading in the garden is something that is new to me, being outside is so important at the minute, and being able to read in the glorious British sun with the grass between my toes is a special kind of bliss.

Odd Jobs

I have been doing the boring stuff like organising my wardrobe, or rearranging my bookshelf, but then there was putting up the bird house. This was a big moment as I have had this bird house for two years, and because I knew we would be moving into a new house, I was never able to put it up. This week we did, and I hope that it is not too late for the birds to use! This was definitely a highlight of my week.
