Have you ever just had the urge to be good at something that you are simply horrible at? Well, for me that is baking. I cannot bake, like, at all. I am nervous every time I come to try it, it is an art, and I am not an artist. I am too heavy handed and blasé about it all. So, this is it, I am determined to get this. By the end of the year I will be able to have at least one dish that I can bake well consistently.
So I am starting a review process. Every time I bake, I will photograph it, taste it, review it and correct my mistakes. Here are my notes.
Plain Scones
Recipe: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/classic-scones-jam-clotted-cream
Did I follow the recipe: yes
Texture: not too bad
Decoration: I whipped up some double cream and brought out Jon’s homemade jam
Taste: it was good!
Notes:
I again had to bake these longer than the recommended time. When I cut into one it was doughy so they went in around 20 minutes more than they should have. That didn’t do too much to the crust and they were great, sweet enough. Jon said they needed raisins but I am a plain or cherry scone girl. They were a delightful afternoon treat with some jam, cream and tea. Would bake again!
Everything seems to be getting better the more I practice. Could I say that maybe I am enjoying baking? Who would have thought.
Let me know in the comments how your lockdown baking is going.
Until next time.

They look beautiful! Nicely done!
Are scones supposed to be on the drier side? I prefer biscuits because they are moister but maybe I’ve just had bad scones, lol

It’s really a preference but because I have mine with jam and cream I like it to be a bit more of a sweet bread texture
